I figured I needed a little change in my life since the summer is here, so yesterday I went all “Hollywood” which means highlights and blond hair!

I love going to the hairdresser, I think very girl do, and even though my hair looks so different now, I am so happy about it!

I had blond, highlighted hair all through my teens so it’s not the first time, it’s good to change things up a bit once in a while!

So lets see the result:

Shame on me! But not to worry, here is a Friday filler from last week in Hollywood, Los Angeles.

14 Things To Make Your Day Start Awesome

A new morning, a new day, new opportunities.

It doesn’t matter if you are a morning bird or if you like to hit the snooze button a hundred times before you get up, we all want to have a good morning.

For me, the morning is what determines if a day will go good or bad for me. If I have a great start, suddenly the whole days turns in for the better. It’s not that I give up on the day if I have a bad start, but  it will absolutely be a little bit more difficult getting the day going.

As you know, I’m an actress, and a TV-reporter for Norway, but based in L.A, so that means I have a home office and most of the days on set, is in the evening, so I don’t really have  a nine to five job. So it would be easy for me to just skip the mornings, sleep until noon and so on.

But I’m a bizzy bee, and love to get the most out of my days, and there is always something to do. Editing, auditions, reading scenes, workout, meetings, interviews and the list goes on.

So, after I moved to L.A I had to make a deal with myself to get the most out of my days and life, so I get up a little extra early to have some time waking up, and get a good start.

And in the beginning, it was hard, but you will get used to it and trust me, it will make your days easier.

So I found a list on Hubpages.com with 14 good things to make your morning easier, and I decided to add my advise as well, and what I so to make a “Good Morning”.

So here you go, hope it might help you as well to get more out of your mornings.. :)

The Best Way To Start Your Day

1. Wake up on time. Most of us hear that loud ringing sound in our ears and just bang it until you hit the snooze button and then go back to sleep for 9 more minutes. Then it goes off again! Some of us hit it again, but others actually get up! By hitting the alarm clock over and over meaning you sleep later and later only calls for a bad day. This means you wake up late and have to rush to work or school and rushing things is always a call for disaster. Instead, get up at the right time so you can have enough time to get ready and stuff.

And here I have a confession, I don’t really like myself for it, but it is what it is. After I wake up and get dressed, I like to check updates quick, check my email, twitter, instagram, quick look over the news and then I’m done. I’m updated, and don’t think about it anymore. If there is emails I need to answer in a hurry I do that, the rest of it can wait til after breakfast. If you can, it probably would be better to wait until after breakfast with the whole update thing, but I like to do it after waking up, getting up and getting ready, because then I don’t think about it anymore.

Oh and stretch! like a cat, in bed. Nothing is better than stretching out all over the bed in the morning. it wakes you up and get the blood flowing in you. stretch stretch stretch

IMG_2493

2. Take an early morning walk or jog. If you have a lot of time on your hands, this will surely wake you up. Get up, get some shorts or something on, and go for a walk with the dog or a jog. It allows you to awaken strong for a good day!

Me and my dearest Lena walk with her dog Smulan every morning at 7 or 8 am, it depends on the weather. if it is a hot day, we have to go a bit earlier, or you will be in shock at the top because of the heat. But it’s almost therapy! you wake up, you get great exercise and you will feel so much better throughout the day.

IMG_1073

3. Take a shower. Taking a shower allows you to be cleansed of all the gross stuff your body picked up overnight. For example, oil in your hair. You don’t want to go to work with horrible looking hair! You want to keep your job don’t you? Taking a shower also offers some relaxation for your morning.

I also have a morning routine for my face that I have told you about. Three simple steps with Kinara. Wash, cleanse, moist. I simply love it! The best about it is the Re-balancing Tonic (step two) because it is so fresh, it has a strong mint in it and your face gets a cold tingle. It feels so nice and it really helps me wake up! read more about it here and get it at mybeautyavenue.no

IMG_2472

4. Take your time getting dressed. When taking your time, really at anything, you avoid error. If you rush through something like getting dressed and mess up somehow, you will be regretting it. You will regret forgetting socks and you have to go the whole day with a stinky pair of feet!

What can help you is finding out what you want to wear the day before so you all ready have it figured out. I wish I was better at that, because I never know what to wear (girls huh?) But most important of it all, wear something that makes you feel good, look good and is comfortable. So after you are dressed, hair styled and makeup on, look yourself in the mirror and say “You look pretty today!” This is not always easy, but just do it, because it will stay in your mind and if you feel it, everyone else will see it too.

IMG_1401

5. Eat a good breakfast. Once you have done the first 3 thing, its time for the food, everyone’s favorite! Eat a good breakfast for energy for the day. Choices include an apple or banana or both, cereal, bacon and eggs, anything that will give you energy for the day.

This is important, but I’m not always hungry in the morning. So what you can do is make yourself a big, healthy smoothie that you even can take with you in the car or out into whatever you will do next. Or, make a little bowl of oatmeal with berries. It will last for long, and taste good, even if you don’t feel that hungry.

You can read more about food in the morning in this post: “What to eat”

IMG_2479

6. Drink coffee. Drinking coffee allows every bit of you that didn’t get waken up by the first 4 steps to be waken up, haha. Coffee is good for when you are tired to wake you up. What are you in the morning? Tired. What do you need to do? Wake up! Drink coffee.

Or, even better, drink tea! I love tea in the morning . My favorite is TAZO organic Chai Tea. And it has caffeine as well, so trust me this will get you going. And it taste amazing :)

IMG_2470

7. Read the newspaper. This can be done while you eat and drink breakfast. Reading the newspaper allows you to catch up on the news. Who knows, you might read something that you like that will put you in a good mood for the rest of the day, or you might read something bad which creates a bad mood. Just read the homes or sports section. Those shouldn’t make you mad.

Okay, I don’t read the papers, but I do surf the internet to see the top news. So here I guess you should get the whole email, insta, twitter,Facebook update thing going. What I like to do during breakfast is actually to read the newest fashion magazine or something like that and listen to my favorite music depending on how I feel that morning. Music always makes me happy and inspired. Great start in the morning!

IMG_0725

8. Watch the morning news. Just like reading the newspaper, the morning news will allow you to catch up on the current news. It will also provide something to talk about at work.

Or just the morning shows. Here in L.A there is a lot of them. I like Fox 11 the best, it gets you updated on the weather, the traffic, the news and the gossip. it is entertaining, it has guests, music, advise for workout, fashion, food and events happening in L.A.

IMG_2468

9. Clean a little bit. When you clean something like a table or a cabinet or whatever you clean, you feel like you have achieved something valuable. Not something big like conquering a nation, just clean a little bit to ensure a good feeling. Feeling good about yourself enables self-esteem which creates a good mood then creating a good day!

And, cleaning up will make you happy when you get back home again. I always do my cleaning in the morning. If I’m not going out and have extra time, I like doing the laundry as well. Having the house clean, your bed, your clothes before noon is a good feeling. Nothing like coming home to a clean and fresh house!

IMG_2477

10. While driving to work, turn on music you like. If you prefer quietness while you drive, that is just fine. It creates more time for relaxation. One thing that puts people into a good mood is their favorite type of music. Turn on some tunes and enjoy the drive.

Yes, well this repeats me. But in the car is a great place to play your favorite type of music as well :)

IMG_2462

11. Take your time driving to work. Once again, take your time! Rushing through might cause for someone to get mad at you which will create a bad day for them and then you might even get in a wreck! That would really not be a good day.

I’m always 15 minutes early to appointments and so. Always! not everyone likes that, so you don’t need to get in to the people you are meeting 15 minutes early. Just get to the address. stroll the neighborhood, find your focus, get ready. And walk in perfectly on time! This is a big plus in my business. have respect for other people’s time, and for yourself as well. Nothing feels better than being on time and prepend for a meeting.

IMG_2489

12. Arriving at work. Arrive at work with a smile on your face, especially if you are passing your fellow co workers. Sometimes, all people need is a good smile to change their day around.

This is a good one! Live by this one! Give people your best smile and a “Good morning” or “Hello”! You will get some pretty good smiles back as well, I promise you that!

IMG_2224

13. Walk into work happy! Odds are, you really do not want to be at work. If you storm in with a frown on your face and stomping your feet, people will notice you are not having a good day. Instead, walk in happy and say hello to everyone, or at least try too.

Well, yes. this is pretty much the same as number 12.

IMG_1911

14. And finally, have the right mindset. Sometimes people pass this step up. They do all these steps but still turn out having a bad day for some reason. Put it in your head that you will have a good day today no matter what happens.

Think positive, and positivity will follow you. Still remember, you are allowed to have a bad day! We all have them sometimes. The best thing to do if you have a bad day is to ask yourself “why”,  why do I feel bad, and what happened that makes me feel that way. Find the answer to that and tell yourself you have right to be ad at it, sad or frustrated, but do I really need to? can I fix it? better yet, can I just leave it? surprisingly, what I have learned is that most of the time, you can just let it go. Most of the time, it is just small things, so fix it or leave it. Don’t get all messed up because of a bad comment, something you did wrong or stressing about something that you can’t control anyway. You don’t need it. You have so much more better things in you, in front of you and around you to focus on. So do that instead.

Norwegian Celebration in The Hollywood Hills

IMG_2347

17.may is an important day for Norway, it’s the Norwegian Constitution Day!

And even though I, and many others, live fare away from home we celebrate the day like never before.

Well, I was both celebrating and working, but it was such a nice day!

IMG_2346

For you who don’t know, this is what 17.may is all about for Norway:

17.may:

Norwegian Constitution Day is the National Day of Norway and is an official national holiday observed on May 17 each year. Among Norwegians, the day is referred to simply as syttende mai (meaning May Seventeenth), Nasjonaldagen (The National Day) or Grunnlovsdagen (The Constitution Day), although the latter is less frequent.

The Constitution of Norway was signed at Eidsvoll on May 17 in the year 1814. The constitution declared Norway to be an independent nation in an attempt to avoid being ceded to Sweden after Denmark-Norway’s devastating defeat in the Napoleonic wars.

IMG_2324

Children’s parades:

A noteworthy aspect of the Norwegian Constitution Day is its very non-military nature. All over Norway, children’s parades with an abundance of flags form the central elements of the celebration. Each elementary school district arranges its own parade with marching bands between schools. The parade takes the children through the community, often making stops at homes of senior citizens, war memorials, etc. The longest parade is in Oslo, where some 100,000 people travel to the city centre to participate in the main festivities. This is broadcast on TV every year, with comments on costumes, banners etc., together with local reports from celebrations around the country. The massive Oslo parade includes some 100 schools, marching bands, and passes the royal palace where the royal family greet the people from the main balcony.

In addition to flags, people typically wear red, white and blue ribbons. Although a long-standing tradition, it has lately become more popular for men, women, and children to wear traditional outfits, called bunad. The children also make a lot of noise shouting “Hurra!”, singing, blowing whistles and shaking rattles.

In addition to children’s parades, there are parades for the public, where every citizen is welcome to join in. These are led by marching bands and often local boy scouts and girl guides, local choirs, etc. This takes place in the early morning or in the afternoon, before or after the school’s parade.

Do it Yourself, No One Else Will Do it For You!

You always hear, “if you want something, go get it” and “No one else can do it for you so go do it yourself!”

So, I live by that.

When I am board, I do my  acting, when I have time to spare, I do my acting, when I am waiting for something, I do my acting.

I work on my accent, I read different scenes and plays, I say them out loud I write my own things and yes, I practise on camera and edit them into short films.

IMG_2246

No, I am no professional editor, and I don’t have fancy equipment, but you do like everything else in life, you take what you have and use it.

As an actress, it’s always good to practice in front of the camera so you can look at it and see for yourself what works and what don’t.

Now, mostly, I do it just for fun, because I like trying to make creative things on my own.

So if you have a song, an iPad and iMovie, you can actually come a long way.

So if you want it, if you have fun doing it. Just do it yourself.

Fashion Statement – N.E.O.N

It’s summer time, and I have some new favorite items in my closet I would like to show you.

I’m all about neon this summer!

Actually, neon colors have been my favorite in many years. In my early teens I loved all the pink, yellow and green neon, and had so many neon colors accessories, it was crazy. And like everything in fashion, it gets old, so there was a time there from when I was 14 to 22 ish where  pastel and earth colors was dominating. And now, finally from my pint of view, neon is back in all its glory.

I love it!

And it dont need to be the whole outfit. maybe just some details…

IMG_2160

or some fancy pansy nails!

IMG_2281

Neon and black is also pretty hot.

I got a new T from H&M for under 20 dollars (!!!) and I’m in love with it!

And, from my closet I pulled out my favorite from last year.

It’s not neon, but it’s super chic and comfy!

All About Juicing!

Juicing is very popular he in the U.S, and I guess it’s coming more and more to Europa as well.

Here in Los Angeles it a huge trend now to go on a juice cleanse.

Some people do it for 1 day others go as fare as a week, but I think three days is the most normal.

The whole concept is to cleanse your body, you get 6 juices a day, you don’t eat anything else, just the juices and make sure to drink a lot of water.

Juicing

Juicing

My dear friend Nina Green from MyBeautyAvenue.no gave me juices for two days so I could try it, and I did!

Before I’ll tell you about my experience, here is some things its good to know about juicing.

Lets start with what they claim about the juice cleanse:

?????????????????

THE CLAIMS
1. It’s an easy way to add servings of vegetables and fruits to your diet.
The latest dietary guidelines recommend five to 13 servings of fruits and vegetables a day (2.5 to 6.5 cups per day), depending on a person’s caloric intake. The average American requires 2,000 calories a day to maintain weight and health, so the average person’s goal is nine servings, or 4.5 cups, of fruits and veggies per day. (By the way, potatoes don’t count.)

Don’t eat that much produce? Neither does anyone else. That’s one reason fans of the juice cleanse say the diet is so healthy: You can fit a lot of fruit and veggie servings into one big glass of juice.

2. We get more health benefits from fruits and veggies in juice form.
You’ll find the following sentence, or something very similar, on almost every juice cleanse website: “Although eating fruits and vegetables in their natural state does provide us with a substantial amount of vitamins and minerals, we only obtain the maximum benefits from them when they are juiced.” Proponents of the cleanses will even tell you that drinking juice “gives the digestive system a break” from breaking down fiber. In reality, fiber helps with digestion.

3. Overweight? We guarantee you’ll lose weight!
Cleanse fanatics claim the diet is great for weight loss.

4. Everything else you want a magic pill for.
Juice cleanse websites tout the diet’s ability to make you feel more energized, boost your immune system, strengthen your bones, make your skin glow and reduce your risk of illness and disease.

My experience:

IMG_1875

First of all, four out of six of the juices tasted like crap!

The second one of the day, number 4 and number 6! I almost got sick from them, and that is never good.

The good thing is, the first day I never really got hungry. You have to drink a juice every 3 hour to get through the whole diet and in between you drink a lot of water so the hunger never really got to me…the first day.

The second day is a whole other story. I was hungry, tired, grumpy and had a massive headache.

During the juice cleanse I could not workout, because I got so tired. Witch sucked!

And its funny, because people say you will get a lot more energy and so on, but it did not have that effect on me.

I concluded with that the juice cleanse is a bad idea for people living an active life.

You need your real food to work through a bizzy day with work, workouts, and other missions you do on a normal day.

Plus, I have a very healthy life anyway. I eat a lot of fruits and vegetables, so there is actually nothing missing in my diet.

So let’s go to the facts about juice cleanses.

IMG_1865

10 Truths About Juice Cleanse

1. It’s dangerous for some people.
People undergoing chemotherapy, diabetics, people with nutritional deficiencies and people with kidney disease should not try a juice fast. The high sugar consumption involved in juice fasts can skyrocket blood-sugar levels in diabetics, which can result in fatigue, unexplained weight loss, blurry vision, excessive hunger and thirst, and wounds or infections that heal more slowly than usual.

According to USA Today, the high levels of potassium and minerals from excessive juice consumption can build up in the blood to hazardous levels in those with kidney disease. And the high levels of antioxidants and low levels of protein can be dangerous for those undergoing chemo.

2. Juicing is not better than whole fruits and vegetables. In fact, it removes some nutrients.
While the juice form does hydrate and supply nutrients, registered dietitian Jennifer Nelson says there’s no reliable scientific research to support claims that juicing your produce is healthier than eating it whole. Actually, the fiber and some of the antioxidants found in the skins and seeds of fruits and vegetables are often eliminated in the juicing process. For example, the white pulp in an orange provides flavonoids, but that’s usually left behind.

Because juice doesn’t offer the fiber contained in fruits and veggies, the body absorbs fructose sugar more easily, which can affect blood-sugar levels, according to Food Republic. If you do decide to try a juice cleanse, drink more veggie juices (carrots and beets not included) and limit fruit juice to one glass a day in order to avoid this potential side effect.

None of this means you shouldn’t drink juice. It simply means, instead of drinking only juice for weeks, a healthier route might just be including juices in a balanced diet of fruits, vegetables, lean protein and whole grains.

3. Juices are less filling than whole fruits and vegetables.
You’re not going to feel as satisfied and full if you drink your meals instead of chewing them, Livestrong.com explains. Additionally, the fiber that’s been left out of the juice would have helped slow consumption and make you feel more sated.

4. Juice fasts can leave out critical nutrients your body needs to function properly.
You should always be skeptical when a diet requires extreme restrictions and cuts out entire food groups. There’s a reason dietary guidelines include various categories of food: You can’t get all of your essential vitamins and minerals out of just one.

Livestrong.com explains that juice fasts frequently lack substantial amounts of protein and fat. “Few fruits contain significant amounts of fat and protein, and vegetables that contain these macronutrients — such as avocados, beans and lentils — do not lend themselves to juicing,” Livestrong says. “Without sufficient protein, your body has no raw materials with which to build new tissue. A lack of fat leaves your skin and hair in poor shape and contributes to malabsorption of fat-soluble vitamins.”

Extend your juice fast, and you might just cause serious damage. Dr. Glenn D. Braunstein, chairman of the Department of Medicine at Cedars-Sinai, says that longer fasts could result in electrolyte imbalances. Additionally, if you’re not getting enough calories, your body could start using muscle tissue instead of fat for energy.

5. Like most fad diets, a juice fast is not an effective way to lose weight and keep it off.
Will you lose weight? Probably — you’re cutting out all of the fat from your diet and drastically lowering your caloric intake. But you’ll most likely put it right back on after the fast.

“There’s nothing wrong with going on a juice fast for a few days,” said Dr. James Dillard, assistant clinical professor at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City, on WebMD. “But it’s not a great way to lose weight, because you’ll gain it all back — you yo-yo. It’s just like the Atkins diet. The weight you lose is water weight.” And Dr. Braunstein (of Cedars-Sinai) says this type of deprivation can also result in dizziness, nausea, constipation, fatigue and irritability.

Additionally, if you do this to your body enough, you could permanently lower your metabolism — as if it’s not tough enough to lose weight as it is. New York Times writer Judith Newman tried a juice cleanse and wrote about her experience: “This kind of cleansing puts a lot of stress on your body,” she wrote. “Your body wants and expects food. And as with most crash diets, which is really what this is, your body thinks it’s starving. It doesn’t know it’s going to get more food. So it lowers your metabolism, and if you do this enough, it can lower your metabolism permanently.”

6. There isn’t really anything to detox.
Don’t get me wrong: A “detox diet” to rid my body of all the crap I’ve recently put in it sounds convincing, even to me. Who wouldn’t want to “cleanse” their body of all the chemicals, fat and alcohol they’ve consumed? The fact is, though, our body does an excellent job of this already; our liver, kidneys and intestines filter the unwanted things we ingest and expel them through urine, bowel movements, breath and sweat. We don’t need to punish ourselves with strict juice-only diets to eliminate the bad stuff.

People were talking about detoxification back in the early 1900s, according to QuackWatch. Supporters of the process claimed that “intestinal sluggishness causes intestinal contents to putrefy, toxins are absorbed and chronic poisoning of the body results.” Scientists abandoned this theory, though, in the 1930s, and these mysterious “toxins” that everyone keeps trying to get rid of have never been discovered.

“Our bodies are very good at eliminating all the nasties that we might ingest over the festive season,” said Dr. John Emsley, a chemical scientist quoted in the Washington Times in a story about the potential of detox diets to get rid of all the junk we put in our bodies over the holidays. The idea of detoxing our bodies by “drinking fancy bottled water or sipping herbal teas is just nonsense.”

IMG_1858

7. It’s not cheap.
The weight loss industry is a business — a booming one at that. As of February 2011, the weight loss market was valued at almost $60 billion, including bariatric surgery, diet soft drinks, health club revenues and more by Marketdata Enterprises. BluePrintCleanse, a popular New York-based manufacturer, will charge you $65 a day for its cleansing package of juices. Los Angeles-based Pressed Juicery offers three different cleanse packages, each providing five juices and one almond milk for a total cost of $70 a day.

Want to juice at home? Get ready to put down some money. Juicers range from $30 to $300. And since you shouldn’t be saving unpasteurized juice for later, you might want to buy one for the office while you’re at it.

8. “But my friend did it and said she felt amazing!”
It’s true. Many people who try these detox diets report having more energy and feeling more focused. However, as Mayo Clinic explains, this could be due to the belief that they’re doing something good for their bodies.

That said, you could also argue that there’s nothing wrong with a placebo effect if it does the job. As the NYT writer who tried one of these cleanses wrote, “What’s so bad about feeling a little better, even if there’s no demonstrable proof that you actually are better?”

9. It’s not going to cure cancer.
Proponents of the juice fast claim it will cure your case of the sniffles and even treat cancer. There has been no scientific evidence suggesting it will do anything but help increase your vitamin intake — which, yes, could benefit your health, but the calorie restriction and lack of protein might actually slow healing. Your body needs all the vitamins, minerals and nutrients it can get to heal. The best thing you can do with your diet is to make sure you’re not depriving it of an essential nutrient and eat balanced, well-portioned meals.

As for cancer, the American Cancer Society states that current scientific research does not support fasting (including juice fasting) to treat it. Additionally, as previously stated, those undergoing chemotherapy should not attempt a juice fast because of the risk posed by the high levels of antioxidants and low levels of protein.

So, what now?

Juicing is not for everyone, especially not the juice cleanse. It did not work out well for me. but hey, I love juicing, so this will not stop me from making my own juices to enjoy.

Instead of doing the whole cleanse, here is a couple of tips that you might do instead and they are all good for you and your body.

  • Replace your morning coffee with a fresh fruit or vegetable juice.
  • Enjoy a large fruit smoothie including a variety of fruits for your breakfast.
  • Try adding a fresh homemade juice into your daily midmorning or midafternoon snack routine.
  • Got a sweet tooth? Drink a fresh juice. The sweetness from the fruit will help with your cravings.
  • Reaching for a beer? Make it a big glass of fresh fruit juice instead
